Are you currently monitoring your cat’s body condition? I’ll be honest, until recently I haven’t been, but thanks to Purina ONE and their Whole Body Health Project I’ve learned just how important it is to do so. Tracking your cat’s body condition can help alert you to potential health problems.
Purina ONE’s Whole Body Health Project and easily play a part in enriching your cat’s health for their lifetime? You sure can! An easy way to monitor your cat’s body condition is with pictures. Taking photos of your cat’s body condition can help you determine their baseline for physical health, behavior and appetite. Read on for more tips on how to accurately log and monitor your cat’s body condition.
Tips to Help You Monitor Your Cat’s Body Condition
Monitor your cat’s body condition by capturing clear photos so you can identify any changes in the future that could be a sign of a potential problem.
Monitor Your Cat’s Behavior
What is your cat’s typical sleep and play pattern like each day? A cats health can be noticed in the way he/she sleeps, plays and interacts with people in the home.
Monitor Your Cat’s Eyes
Take a clear photo of your cat’s eyes in case you need a visual frame of reference later on. The best way to get a good picture of your cat’s eyes is to take it during the daytime and make sure the flash to your camera is off. Keep in mind that your cat’s eyes should be bright, clean and have very little discharge.
Monitor Your Cat’s Skin and Coat
A healthy cat should have a shiny, supple, glossy coat that appears to be elastic and hydrated. Take pictures of your cat’s skin and coat. If you notice any changes of the look and feel of your cat’s coat be sure to document those changes.
Monitor Your Cat’s Body Condition
Look for lean muscle, a pink tongue and gums, uniform body temperature, and ribs that can be felt but aren’t protruding. When you take photos of your cat’s body condition, capture pictures from all angles as it can be difficult to see your cat’s body condition through their long hair. I’ve found it easiest to take pictures of Twix when she’s eating because she will sit still.
Did you know that your cat’s appetite is often the first sign of their health? It’s true! If your cat is eating the recommended feeding amount, maintains a consistent appetite, is eager to eat and typically comes when you feed him, that is a sign of a healthy appetite. Use a journal to track your cat’s appetite. If you notice any changes be sure to update your notes so you can refer to them if needed.
Twix Baseline Health and Behavior
I have been monitoring Twix’s behavior over the past month and since starting Twix on Purina ONE Tender Selects Blend With Real Chicken . I’ve seen her eating habits have improved. She used to be SUPER picky, wouldn’t eat regularly and rarely came when I put food out for her. Now that she is eating Purina One Tender Selects Blend With Real Chicken she is excited when she hears me pour food and runs into the kitchen.
We recently received an excellent package from our friends at Purina ONE! Both Twix and my youngest daughter Mattie were eager to check out the treats. To be honest, I don’t know who was more excited, Twix or Mattie.
Mattie loved opening everything in the box and reminds me every day that she was the first one to feed Twix Purina ONE Tender Select Blends in her new Purina ONE bowls.
Darn kid, she is never going to let me forget that. Twix definitely thinks Mattie is the bee’s knees.
Twix loves the new Purina One Tender Selects Blend With Real Chicken. Finding a nutritional food your cat loves, like Purina ONE Tender Selects Blend With Real Chicken is an essential part of being a cat owner and makes taking pictures to keep up with her Whole Body Health notebook much easier.

I have a kitten that is same as your cat. She is 8 weeks. I definitely needed these tips as a new cat owner. Once she is older, I think I will buy this brand of cat food for her
Thanks for your post on Purina One and keeping a photo log documenting through photographs the condition of your cat. Our 20 year old cat died and we were of course devastated. We have a 4 year old cat, Ziva, who is a sweetie pie, but the strangest cat I have ever had. My son was playing a videogame and making those crazy karate fighting sounds and Ziva loves those sounds and when she hears them, she stops what she is doing and runs and jumps in his lap and crawls up to his face and watches him make the sounds. She also knows the blue bag or box of her Purina dry food and digs through the grocery bags looking for it while we are trying to put our groceries up.
