This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Kibbles ‘n Bits® and Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.
If you’ve followed us for a while, you likely know I have a love for animals, especially the pitbull breed. I’m a firm believer that there is no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad owner.
Over the years, I owned must, Rottweilers, Labradors, and gosh more when I was growing up. It wasn’t until I came home with a little starving pitbull puppy that I fell in love with the breed. I mean, you read everything the media has to say and see everything on TV, and they are pretty scary, right? WRONG, any good pitbull owner, would agree. Sadly, not all pitbull owners are good which is why these dogs get a bad reputation in my opinion.
I thought I would share a few interesting things you might not know about pit bulls; some are serious others are fun and things I’ve personally experienced with the breed. When you are finished reading be sure to leave me a comment, let me know if you agree, disagree, or can add to my post. I love learning about this magnificent breed.
- Pit Bulls will turn on their owners – No, a healthy and stable Pit Bull is like any other dogs. Typically dogs who bit people are troubled, they owners ignore warning signs. I’m not saying all dog bites happen this way, but there are warning signs before most dogs bite. It’s important for ANY dog owner to know these signs, and to notice if their dog is troubled.
- Pit Bulls cannot be socialized with other animals once they are an adult. Whatever to that, when Skittles was young it was just him and Me against the world. I didn’t’ get another dog until he was about three years old, he warmed up quacking and now hangs out with rabbits, ducks, other dogs, and will stick up for our cats, lol. Just don’t tell him I let his secret out. Oh, and he was at one time a troubled dog. It took work, love and not giving up, much like you do when your child has a problem.
- Pit Bulls are mean. Nope, not at all if they are raised correctly. You can’t just chain a dog up outside, toss them a bone once a week, and expect them to be loving and affectionate. I think of mine like I do my kids, they need affection, discipline, rules, and a whole lot of love.
- The jaws of a pitbull are fierce – Honestly, they jaw of a pitbull isn’t any aggressive than other dogs. It’s a myth that they can lock their jaws and has been proved by dental exams. They are if they’re hungry and you show up with a bone especially for them from the store, lol. They might not be able to lock their jaw, but they sure can take up a lot of rooms. Seriously, I mean come on share the bed.
- Their bites are the strongest – Wrong yet again, it’s said that the Rottweiler has the strongest bite force. We wouldn’t know about their bites, but I’m going to bet you my kids would tell you they LOVE sleeping with the dogs because they cuddle.
- Pit Bulls are super smart and willing to please – When it comes to the Pit Bull breed, they are enthusiastic and love to learn. They want to please their owners if you are willing to put in the work they are willing to learn.
- Pit Bulls are great guard dogs – Wrong yet again, Pit Bulls that are raised properly tend to trust humans. I have three Pit Bulls in my front yard and the UPS, Fed Ex, and gosh everyone else can walk up to the pouch and get licked to death. Maybe it’s just my Pit Bulls; they are too busy playing with ducks and rabbits to care who’s leaving with the TV. However, I do admit people are intimidated by them, which does help me feel a little better.
- Don’t mess with their kids – Okay, so I say Pit Bulls are not good guard dogs, but they are a protector. If they love you and need to protect you, they will not hesitate.
- Everyone wants a Pit Bull – Wrong, Pit Bulls are in my opinion of Americas most abused dogs. People want a vicious guard do, they get a Pit Bull and chain them up outside, they get not affection and are neglected. People wonder why they attack when they get lose. You wouldn’t be any different. The above picture is Kota and Joey, two Pit Bulls my daughter found in the back alley trying to get into the trash. They were starving, I didn’t think the black and white one was going to make it. She wouldn’t eat or drink, and looked like she just gave up. Then the strangest thing happened. We put her on the floor next to the water, her brother came up next to her, looked at her, gave out a whimper and started to drink. I’ll be darned if she didn’t start drinking after that, it was almost like he was asking her not to give up, and she responded with an Okay Bubba! They are both six months old, and VERY healthy, but they were running the alley and couldn’t have been but maybe five weeks old.
Pit Bulls are babies – YES, a Pit Bull, who is properly cared for, is sensitive, caring and loving. They are very loyal, but babies. Let’s just say they need you as much as you need them. Okay, so maybe not a baby but they are an amazing friend.
They look fabulous in hats – As a matter of fact they sure do!
They love to eat – Yes, this is true, and they need to be fed! My Pit Bull Skittles is extremely picky, the others not so much because they are younger. Over the years, Skittles has been spoiled rotten, and one of his favorites is Kibbles ‘n Bits® lol.
Obviously, I love my dogs and their health is important to me and I want to feed them something I know is packed with antioxidants, essential vitamins, and minerals, that they love, and I can pick up for an affordable price because we do have several large dogs.

I love the Pit Bull breed, but I do admit they are not for everyone. They can, like myself, be stubborn and hard headed, but with the right amount of love they are by far my favorite breed of dogs. However, if you are looking to get a Pit Bull be sure to adopt, so many need good homes! They will appreciate you and everything you’ve done for them. They don’t forget, that’s for sure and they will spend the rest of their life paying you back.
What kind of dog do you currently have and what do they do that makes you smile?
