Show Us Your Hand Glasses and Help The World See!

by Jenn Brockman

It’s easy to take our senses for granted because until we don’t have them they are part of who we are.  I never stopped long enough to realize this until I found out my daughter needed glasses.  Thankfully we caught hers in time it should correct itself has she gets older with the proper vision care.  However, there are billions of people all over the world who are not as lucky as she is and without proper vision care things will only get worse.  It’s heartbreaking and I am thankful OneSight is asking EVERYONE for their help in raising awareness by putting on their hand glasses and using the hashtag #HelpTheWorldSee when you share it on your social networks.   You can also donate that dollar that’s been sitting in your car’s middle console; it’s been there for a while right!  Well put your change to work and help a deserving person get the vision care they so deserve, we all deserve to see, and it’s amazing the things we can accomplish if we all come together for a common goal, to spread our love for other and to do what we can to #HelpTheWorldSee!

You never know what your $1 is capable of doing either.  I know before we found out Vayda needed glasses she was doing horribly in school, terrible!  One she was able to see things changed, and she is doing great, but I often think about the children who grow up without vision care and are not seeing clearly.  What does the future hold for them?  Will they end up getting into trouble because they cannot focus on their schoolwork, don’t know what is wrong with them, or even worse will they just stop caring?  I know this might not happen, but I watched my daughter changes, EVERYTHING about her changes, her self-confidence, goals, attitude, friends, she started acting up in class, and I know if she wouldn’t have had proper vision care she would have only gotten worse. It’s scary to think about not having vision care and the long-term effects it can have on some children.

The wonderful people at OneSight and Deloitte have collaborated to help bring this major issue into focus.  They released a study and did you know that 1.1 billion people in different part of the world need glasses, but they do not have any access to vision care.  What’s even more startling is that is 1 in 7 of us.
