It’s summer, which means it’s getting hot outside, and there are tons of reasons to consider the many reasons to leave your dogs home this summer. While our pups might enjoy a drive, it might be smarter to leave them at home, especially if you are going to leave them in the car for any length of time. Dogs, just like people cannot be left in a hot card. It might only be 90 degrees outside, but you have to remember the temperature inside the car is much warmer.
I love my dogs; they are super special, and each has their personality. I think about them every time I’m fixing to leave, mostly because Skittles is at my feet the second he realizes I have my purse, lol. He’s so funny he always wants to go for a ride, but I think like to play it safe in the summer and leave him home. He might hate it, but at least I feel good knowing he will not be stuck in a hot car that could harm him. Things happen, accidents happen. I’m just not willing to put my pups in danger if it can be avoided. While he might not like it, there are more reasons to leave your dog home this summer than to bring them.
REASONS TO LEAVE YOUR DOGS HOME THIS SUMMER
Here are a few reasons we think it’s better to leave your dogs at home this summer.
CARS GET HOT FASTER THAN WE OFTEN REALIZE –
Did you know that the temperature inside your car can rise about 40 degrees in as little as an hour. If it’s 80 degrees outside and you leave your pup in the card they can easily be sitting in a car that is well over 100 degrees.
THE TEMPERATURE INSIDE YOUR VEHICLE IS MUCH HOTTER THAN IT IS OUTSIDE
While it might take about an hour for the temperature inside your car to rise 40 degrees, did you know most of the increase is done in the first 30 minutes?
LEAVING THE WINDOWS DOWN ISN’T AN OPTION
You might think leaving the windows down is okay but it’s not. Your car will still heat up even with the windows cracked. While it might help a tad bit, it’s not enough to keep your pup cool. The situation could still end badly.
YOU WOULDN’T PUT YOUR PUP IN THE OVEN WOULD YOU
When it’s hot outside your car is well over the 100-degree mark, sometimes it’s as hot as 120 degrees or more.
THE AC MIGHT HELP BUT CAN YOU TRUST IT
Sure the AC will help keep your dog cool but what if something happens and your car dies, or the AC stops working?
THEY WILL HAVE A BETTER TIME AT HOME DOGS ARE LIKE KIDS, THEY DON’T THINK BEFORE THEY ACT. WELL, MINE
Dogs are like kids, they don’t think before they act. Well, mine don’t anyway. They jump in the car all happy and before I know it they are sleeping in the backseat. I know they wish they would have stayed home, lol. I get the same response from my kids when I take them to the grocery store. Plus, Skittles knows when he stays home he gets his treat and he’s been really enjoying Natural Balance Delectable Delights, lol. Plus, he gets in my bed which he knows is a no-no, but when I’m gone I guess it’s fair game to him.
DON’T FEEL BAD TO LEAVE YOUR DOGS HOME THIS SUMMER
In my opinion, it’s just better to leave them home when it’s hot outside. Sure they might get a little depressed, but you could be saving their life. I know Skittles loves to go, but I won’t take him during the summer months because it’s not safe. I typically give him a little treat before I leave. It helps give him a reason to wag his tail and makes me feel better so I don’t have to see that depressed face staring at me while I’m leaving. It’s seriously depressing, lol.
