Fast, Easy and Delicious – That’s the Boardwalk Way

We all love treats. Some like a cold treat while others like something sweet. Still other people prefer a salty treat like a pretzel. Both my husband and I love pretzels. They are relatively low in calories and are the perfect treat on game days or simply for movie nights. There are many brands of pretzels on the market, but you really cannot depend on the freshness of the product. There is a better way to get the freshness you like without the time or talent it takes to make them completely from scratch. The answer is with a Boardwalk Pretzel Mix. Boardwalk provided me with three of their mixes for this review. Thank you Boardwalk Food Company.

I introduced you to the Boardwalk mixes a few months ago when I had the opportunity to test their bread mixes. The convenience of the Boardwalk mixes really saves time, especially if you crave the taste and texture of a freshly baked product. The same is true with the Boardwalk Pretzel Mixes. All of the Boardwalk mixes are made with beer, but do not worry moms, the alcohol contents bakes off. If you are concerned, you could also substitute the beer ingredient with any 6 ounce of carbonated beverage.

For this review, I was able to test the Original Pretzel Mix, the Original Popper Mix, and the Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Mix. The first product, the Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel Mix is my favorite of the three. It is simple to make. Just place the mix along with the beer in a bowl and stir. Knead the dough ball on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes. Cut the dough into pieces and dunk pieces in simmering baking soda water for 5-10 seconds, drain and place on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 7 minutes at 425º or until golden brown. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle with sugar and enjoy. With a crisp, golden brown outside and a soft, chewing inside, these soft pretzels are a great snack to serve your craft beer loving friends and family.

Following the same preparation directions as with the Cinnamon Sugar Mix, I prepared the Original Pretzel Mix. Boardwalk thinks the only thing better than a craft beer and pretzel is craft beer in the pretzel. They are right. You will love the delicious flavor of the Original Pretzel Mix as nothing goes with a cold beer better than a warm, soft pretzel.

The last product, the Popper Mix, preparation instructions are just a bit different in that you add 12 ounces of beer unlike the 6 ounces of beer in the other mixes. Instead of kneading the dough, you will spoon the mixture into muffin tins and bake for 20-22 minutes at 375º. However, should you desire, you could use mini muffin pans to make 48 poppers instead of the standard muffin pan to make 12 muffins. Alternatively, pour the mixture into a 9” loaf pan for a loaf of bread. I elected to make the 48 poppers.

Have fun with different varieties of these mixes. By changing the beer, you change the flavor. Using a Pilsner beer produces a clean, crisp taste and subtle flavor, while a Hard Cider provides a crisp and slightly sweet flavor. On the other hand, you can try a Chocolate Stout. A smooth and creamy beer with a dark chocolate flavor. For additional recipes and pairings, visit the Boardwalk website. While you are there, do not forget to order your favorite mixes.

While you can purchase the Boardwalk Pretzel Mixes online at the company’s website, the mixes are also available at select retailers nationwide. The mixes retail for $7.99 each.

I am sure you will want to tag the Boardwalk Company on their social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.
