Ingredients

  • Turkey Cookies:
  • Package of Nutter Butter cookies
  • Container of mini candy eyes
  • Orange M&M's
  • Royal Icing:
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 C powder sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • Red & orange gel food coloring

Instructions

Turkey Cookies:

Assembly directions for Nutter Turkey will follow instructions for royal icing.

Royal Icing:

Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl, mixing on medium speed for 4 minutes. (except for your food coloring).

If the icing is not stiff enough, add 1/4 cup powdered sugar.

Divide the icing into thirds.

In the first bowl, add several drops of orange gel food coloring. Stir to blend.

In the second bowl, add drops of red gel food coloring, mixing well to incorporate the color.

The third bowl of icing remains white.

Pour each color of icing into individual frosting bags with a #5 tip. Twist the open end of the bag to push the icing to the tip.

Turkey Cookie Assembly:

Lay out several Nutter Butter cookies.

Separate the orange M&M's on a plate.

Pour out the mini candy eyes in a small bowl.

Using the picture of the Nutter Cookies as an outline.

After referring to the photo, decide where you want to place the eyes, make a small dot on the cookie with white icing, and place the candy eyes over the dots. Allow a few seconds for the eyes to dry.

Apply a small dot of orange icing to the area of the nose. Hold the orange M&M to the orange icing for 30 seconds until it "glues" onto it.

With the frosting bag of red icing, draw a "waddle" on the side of the turkey's face coming from the side of the orange nose.

Allow the icing to dry completely for about an hour, or until you touch the waddle and it is dry.

These are adorable. People can be so imaginative when it comes to food presentation. This would even look great as part of a centerpiece.

So adorable! And no hot oven to deal with! Also, I like that these can be adapted for other holidays.occasions. That’ts the stuff I really like – get a basic idea, and then change it around a bit. I can see these made for little Santas, etc. Even “Uncle Sams” for the 4th of July. Thanks!

These are so cute. I didn’t know they made candy eyes, I will have to look for them next time I am in the baking section of the store. It looks like you used some jellybeans for the feathers but I didn’t see them mentioned in the recipe.
