Cast Iron Skillet Apple French Toast Bake
Isn’t the Cast Iron Apple French Toast just beautiful? This is one of our favorites when we decide to have breakfast for dinner, but it’s also great for breakfast or even a little slice for dessert.
You can’t go wrong with the wonderful flavors of apples and pumpkin in the fall and the best part is it’s not hard to make, just takes a little of your time and the family will love it.
Ingredients
- French Toast Ingredients:
- 1 loaf white bread, cubed
- 6 eggs, room temp
- 1 1/2 C skim milk
- 1/3 C sugar
- 1 TBSP vanilla
- Seasoning Apples:
- 4 large Cortland apples
- 2 TBSP sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- Cooked apple topping:
- Seasoned apples from above.
- 8 TBSP unsalted butter, room temp
- 2/3 C packed brown sugar
- 2/3 C water
Instructions

- Cut bread into cubes.
- Beat eggs with skim milk, white sugar, and vanilla together in a bowl.
- Pour egg mixture over the bread.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prep cast iron skillet with baking spray.
- Layer prepared French toast in the cast iron skillet using your hands to press it down.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes.
- While this is baking prepare the cooked apple topping:
- [!b]Seasoning Apples:[/b]
- Peel, core, and slice apples thinly.
- Combine cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar together in a sealed bag.
- Add sliced apples and toss to the bag. Set aside at least 30 minutes.
- Combine the butter, brown sugar, water and apples in a pan. Cook until slightly softened, 8 to 10 minutes medium heat.
- When the Cast Iron Skillet French Toast Bake is completed, pour the cooked apple and sauce over the top.

Wow! This does not look like any french toast that I’ve ever seen. I would definitely eat this as a dessert, and I would love to try it with pumpkin instead of apple, for fall.
