I don’t know about your kids, but two of my kids’ favorite things to do are have fun and get messy. Of course, there are clean activities for them to do, but you remember being a child, it’s not nearly as fun if you don’t get messy. So I figured I would share a few fun but messy activities for kids.
6 Fun & Messy Activities for Kids
Painting
We all love art. However, turning a child loose with paints isn’t nearly as clean, but they have so much fun, create pictures, and maybe even turn themselves into a masterpiece.
You can also use water, flour, salt, and food coloring to make edible finger paint, which can be ever messier than traditional kids’ paints, lol. It’s something about the word edible — kids love it.
How can we deny allowing our children to paint? We can’t, so be sure to have some OxiClean™ Laundry detergent to wash their clothing.
My kids love decorating cupcakes. It allows them to get in touch with their creative side while having fun and getting a little messy. Okay, maybe a lot dirty lol.
Make Rock Candy Skewers
We haven’t done this in a long time, but the kids had a blast making rock candy skewers. Plus, they loved watching the water evaporate and the sugar crystals staying behind to create their tasty science treat on a stick.
Go rock collecting?
My kids love going rock collecting. They tend to find some cool rocks that we can use for science experiments or decorations later too. It’s also an excellent way to spend time together. Sure, rock collecting doesn’t sound like a messy adventure, but remember there is dirt on all of those rocks. If your kids are anything like mine, they’ll also find any mud within a mile radius.
Straw Painting
More artwork for the walls or that you can pass down to your children when they are older, lol. Regardless, straw painting is fun. Simply blow through the straw onto the paper, creating fun and unique designs. Yes, more painting. Be sure to consider the kind of paint you’re going to use so you can get kids’ clothing clean with OxiClean™ Laundry detergent and enjoy.
Baseball in a beautiful green grassy field
Thankfully, OxiClean™ Laundry detergent gets out grass stains.
Did you know OxiClean™ Laundry gets out grass, blood, wine, fruit, ice cream, chocolate, spaghetti sauce, barbecues sauce, and more? It most certainly does, and it comes in a Fresh Scent, and a perfume- and dye-free.
If you haven’t used OxiClean™ to treat those tough stains, here are a few tips to get you started.

To best treat stains using OxiClean™ Laundry detergent, you’ll want to pre-treat with the detergent or a pretreater or soak the tough stains before tossing them in the washer. Of course, you’ll also want to wash out stains as quickly as possible. To pre-treat using OxiClean™ pretreaters you can visit Oxiclean.com. You can also pretreat with laundry detergent or pre-soak stains with a solution made up of warm water and OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover, Powder Laundry Detergent or Detergent Paks.
- If pretreating with detergent, pour OxiClean™ Laundry detergent directly on the tough stain(s), rub in and wash.
- If using powder, add one full scoop of OxiClean™ Powder Laundry Detergent to the washer with warm water, soak overnight, drain, and then launder as normal. Be sure to check the stain before tossing it into the dryer, just to be safe.
- If you’re using the paks, add 1 to 2 OxiClean™ Laundry Detergent Paks and one gallon of the warmest water allowed per your fabric care instructions. Let paks dissolve, submerge garment, allow to soak for one to six hours and wash as normal.

Be sure to swing by the OxiClean™ website here to learn more about all the fabulous products they offer and how they can help you keep your whites whiter and brights brighter.
Note: Please follow manufacturer directions for your garments. For best results, pretreat stains with laundry detergent, wait 5-10 minutes and then wash.

I love to bake with the kids and that can be pretty messy! Kids getting messy is a wonderful thing for their sensory development, great ideas here.
We make cupcakes often & enjoy it so much thanks for the rock candy we look forward to doing it should be fun.
Kids love making a mess. It’s funny watching them when they’re creating something like a finger painting. Thank goodness, there is a detergent that actually does clean up the stains left behind on their clothes. I use OxiClean powder in the wash and to clean with.
Cupcake decorating is a fun and messy activity, it’s my favorite on the list you have here. Although I have heard of OxiClean™ Laundry detergent I have never actually used it myself. It sounds like a great product and I can’t wait to give it a try. Thank you for sharing this post.
Nice list,
My kids judge the amount of fun, by how filthy they are. LOL. I will have to try Oxyclean. I usually make my own detergent, but maybe a boost would be good.
These are such great ideas. I know my grandchildren would have fun with all of these. I also love OxyClean. It works so well for my laundry. Thank you so much for sharing
