by jbrockman files

If you are anything like me, then you understand that coming up with new ideas for dinner can be difficult. That’s when I have to remember that classics and my family’s favorites. Those recipes are always a hit and just by adding a few ingredients or tweaking it some way can totally reinvent it. My family loves comfort food and also a meal that doesn’t need utensils. I made them Unsloppy Joes a while back and decided to throw them back on the menu for the Home30 Challenge. This time, I used the Philips Airfryer to make the final dinner and it was a huge success.

As promised, here is another recipe that I made for the family while we are doing the Home30 Challenge using our Philips Airfryer. It is super easy, super yummy, and super fun for the whole crew. Let’s get started.

onions and green chili cooking

Here is what you’ll need for ingredients: *Note: I made my own sauce for the “Joes,” but feel free to use canned sauce for a simpler recipe*

1 tube biscuits
1 lb ground beef
½ green pepper finely diced
½ white onion finely diced
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 roasted green chile sliced lengthwise
½  cup BBQ sauce
½ cup ketchup
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon apple vinegar
½ tablespoon mustard
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon cayenne or chili powder (your choice)
salt & pepper to taste

Now, let’s get to cooking. First, in a large skillet, brown the ground beef, sauteeing the green pepper and onion until tender. Next, drain the grease from you beef.

In a medium bowl, mix the BBQ sauce, vinegar, mustard, water, brown sugar, garlic powder, chili powder, and the salt & pepper. Whisk together until mixed thoroughly, tasting as you go and changing the acidity to your preference.

Once sauce is to your likely (or if using canned sauce) add to the ground beef and heat through.

Preheat your Philips Airfryer to 330 degrees while your meat is heating.

On a flat surface, or cutting board, using a rolling pin or your hands, roll out your biscuits to about 4”. Spoon meat, cheese and a slice of green chile onto the biscuit. Fold close and pinch the side tightly shut to avoid any sauce or cheese from leaking.

Spray the basket of your Philips Airfryer and arrange 2 to 3 “Unsloppy” Joe pockets into the basket. Cook at 330 degrees for about 6 to 7 minutes, or until lightly golden brown and crispy crust forms on the pockets.

Remove the “Unsloppy” Joes and place on wire rack in an unheated oven  or in the microwave while you cook the rest of the pockets.

Serve with your favorite dipping sauce, our family enjoys ranch, salsa, and Louisianna Hot Sauce. This is such a great recipe that takes a beloved American tradition, and makes it quick, easy, and fun for dinner. Toss some chips on the side, or some cottage cheese and fruit to complete a healthy and comforting dinner for the crew!

The Home30 Challenge using our Philips Airfyer has really give me a chance to explore a new and healthy way to fry up some of those guilty comfort foods. The “Unsloppy” Joes got me on that comfort food kick and I wanted to share another recipe with you.

Another great American food that is super popular with kids and adults the same are Pigs in a Blanket. Cooking them in the Philps Airfryer is incredibly easy and fast and there is no reason to turn on your oven. As before, here is that recipe for you to try in your Philips AIrfryer.
