Okay, so many of you know I live in New Mexico. Did you watch Fearless Felix jump from the edge of space on Sunday? WOW, we did and I have to say I am still in amazement.
I honestly cannot get over the fact that:
- One: He actually did that. I would have looked down and returned to my seat, bucked my seat belt, and phoned home. I would have told them, “sorry I know we’ve been training for 7 years, but nobody told me it was going to be this FREAKING SCARY!” Seriously, did you see some of those photo’s. Dang if not just Google it, you’ll find them everywhere.
- TWO: If I was his girlfriend, I would have told him, “I THINK NOT BUDDY. You’re going to stay right here on the ground with me.” Seriously, what a brave lady. Two thumbs up for supporting her guy, that took a lot of guts, and well support. I don’t know what else to say, but she’s an awesome lady. I would have told my husband there was no way in hell he was jumping from the edge of space today.
- THREE: OMG, DID YOU SEE THOSE PICTURES! I know, I keep coming back to that but seriously.
WOW, that’s one brave man. Yes, I do call it bravery. I’ve heard a lot of rude remarks, but what this man did was more than just jump from the edge of space.
My husband (Shawn) has been giving me a hard time, because I am totally amazed by this. Every chance I get I am checking out a picture of Fearless Felix, the man who jumped from the edge of space. It’s just amazing to me, I’ve learned a lot about this man, in my opinion he’s actually a pretty awesome guy.
I am going to support anyone that works that hard to accomplish a dream. Seriously, there’s a picture on his Facebook page, (no I am not a stalker, lol) that he had drawn when he was like 5 years old. This picture was of his family on the ground and him parachuting down from the air. Simply amazing how someone so young can follow the same dream their whole life.
There was more than 10 million people watching Felix make this historical jump. If you weren’t one of them, let me share what this man did.
Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner (Fearless Felix), in a capsule, attached to a HUGE hot air balloon went up 24 miles. They launched from Roswell,New Mexico, about 60 miles from where I live.
Baumgartner attempted to free fall and break records, and be the first man to hit supersonic without the support of a jet or space shuttle . Free falling for 4 minutes 20 seconds, he broke supersonic at 833 miles per hour. Needless to say he broke supersonic, and good for him.
Watching him fall there was a point where he started spinning. I was biting my nails and could hardly watch. It took Felix more than two hours to reach the height they needed for him to jump. I really grew to like him and didn’t want to see anything bad to happen to him. Thank goodness he was able to regain control and land safely.
Before Felix jumped Kittinger told him, “Our guardian angel will take care of you.” Kittinger was Baumgartner’s mentor. Kittinger’s, was the first man who attempted to break the sound barrier from 19.5 miles up in 1960 reaching speeds of 614 miles per hour.
It was wonderful seeing them work together. Before I knew who Kittinger was, I assumed it was Baumgartner’s father. I really saw a lot of emotion on Kittingers face, the entire time. It was touching to see him be so supportive and for the two of them to trust one another that much. WOW, there was a lot of trust on this mission, it was nice to see everything run smoothly.
Check out this video, before all the major technology. This is Kittinger’s jump, a site to see.
There’s one more thing that was said that really stood out to me, and probably many others. Before Baumgartner jumped he said, “sometimes you have to get up really high to realize how small you are. I’m coming home.” One can only imagine what he felt and witnessed with his own two eyes. We see pictures, but it’s not the same.
I was excited when I read somewhere that this would be “Fearless Felix’s” last extreme altitude jump, he has promised this will be his final jump. I bet his girlfriend and mother are relieved. I know I sure would.
What’s your thoughts on the jump from the edge of space. I would love to know what you thought about “Fearless Felix” and his jump.
