Those of you that make you’re living with your blog, I admire each of you! I admire anyone that’s blogging and loving what they do. After all Blogging is easy work, there’s not much too it! You choose a domain name, get a nice theme, and toss some words in a post, right! Ha, I by no means know everything about blogging, still consider myself to be a newbie! After all I am still learning something new everyday in the blogosphere.
I have had a few people tell me they were going to start a blog because they needed some extra money fast. Oh, wait some easy money fast… WTF, for real did they just say that, I was extremely insulted by this comment. After all, hummmm obviously they have not a clue what it takes to be a blogger. Have you seen the money that Problogger makes, monthly? That’s easy, my left foot, than why the hell aren’t we all doing it!
I am sure all bloggers that pay their bills and raise their families blogging are sitting out by the pool pecking at the keyboard over a cup of lemonade chit chatting with the girls. Doubt it, their working!
I entered the blogosphere about 9 months ago, and from day one it was work. I entered knowing nothing and I mean nothing.. SEO, WTF is that, keywords, say what, giveaways, sounds fun but hum, where would I do that. Review, review what? I was seriously clueless, lost in the big bad blogosphere, lol.
I guess my reason for entered wasn’t because I knew anything about blogs, honestly had not idea what they did. I started selling Scentsy and I wanted to get my page to rank online. Someone told me start a blog, and left it at that. Okay, start a blog how hard can that be, right!? Wrong, I knew I was in for it, I knew nothing. However, I know me and I am a very determined individual. Little did I know how much there is to know, honestly this is what has pushed me to stick with it.
In 9 months I feel like I have accomplished a lot, not a pro by any means I still learn at least one thing every single day. May not have the best social media following out there, however I work hard trying to make sure my readers have something new daily. That’s the beauty behind the blogosphere, you’re always learning, using your mind, expanding growing your blog and as an individual. You know Google has to do something to keep bloggers on their toes and freaking out every few months, lol… Yet we keep doing what we do, day in and day out! We are dedicated, devoted, I guess some would say married to our blogs!
So in 9 months I have went from a page rank 0 with 0 social media followers, and thinking WTF to email subscribers. Now I have about 9200 Facebook, 5500 Twitter, 1700 Email Subscribers, 1600 Google +1, along with other social media accounts. I am damn proud of those numbers, it was hard work getting there and at times, danm discouraging. Thinking what to I do, how do I do it, and how the hell to I get people engages on my blog and social media accounts. Let’s just say, I ask a lot of questions and read tons of blog posts along the way.
I am not bragging at all by no means, simply stating Blogging is HARD WORK, daily.
I also work a full-time job as a store manager for a large bank, have 4 children and several blogs now you tell me blogging isn’t work. I admit I would rather be blogging than at my day job, maybe one day I will we shall see. However, it’s not easy yet seems like people often think it is. If you’re thinking about pledging into the world of blogs, social media, etc know what you’re getting yourself into. It’s not rainbows and glitter, its hard work.
Blogging is some of the most rewarding work I have ever done, yet some of the hardest most time-consuming work at the same time. But I say, if you want to do it give it a shot, you might end up like me. Letting the Scentsy go for the blog, I don’t have time for it all had to give something up. Well, Scentsy I still love you in my Scentsy pot. however this is where I want to be.
You know what keeps me here, what will keep me here? It’s the people, the majority of them are real. I have never in my life meet so many understanding, willing to help, wonderful people in my life. Don’t get me wrong I love blogging, but nothing beats being surrounded by some of the coolest cats around.
To those of you thinking about starting a blog, if your serious about it you’ll do well. You’ll meet some wonderful people who are willing to help you out. You’ll meet real people, if you want an honest opinion ask a blogger, they’ll give you their honest opinion but it’s only because they want to help you become better at what you do. You know there’s the occasional blogger that isn’t willing to help, or could care less, but there are majorly outnumbered by the bloggers that care!
Thanks for listening to me blow some steam, I hear it so often… Maybe, I should start a blog it cannot be that hard. I think people often think it’s just that easy, you start a blog and watch the funds roll in. It takes hard work dedication, devotion, and support. It’s a wonderful place if you’re doing it for the right reasons, however I cannot imagine doing it just to make an extra buck. Sure we get frustrated, but we do it because we love it, we love the people, learning, growing and blogging.
I admire everyone for doing what they love, money is wonderful we need it to keep our blogs going. Sure many of us want to make a living at it, but if I only make enough to keep my blog going I am happy with that… I love reviewing products, regardless if there’s pay or a giveaways, I love being part of giving something back to the people who read my blog, I enjoy chit-chatting with all the wonderful bloggers out there and meeting new people and reading their blogs. There’s so much support, to get a question answered visit a Facebook group as a question and guaranteed you’ll have at least 5 answers in 10 minutes.

AMEN! People also don’t realize that there is EXPENSE associated with the blog. Definitely not rainbows & glitter, lol… my husband calls mine my NIPP – non income producing project!!! (and about 16hrs a day for that!)
True that, I think so many people think, it’s soooo freaking easy! Makes me so mad lol, its work and cost money…. That’s a good one lol NIPP, not going to tell my hubby that sure he’ll love it! I hear you on the long hours, it’s wonderful if you do it for the right reasons!
I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I would love to have my own blog but i think it would be too hard for me to start and stay with it. I definitely have bucket-loads of respect for you.
Jennifer, blogging is wonderful if you want to start one shoot me an email I would love to help you with anything you need! It’s a lot of work but extremely rewarding, you’ll love it if you’re doing it for the right reason! Shoot me an email, I love helping one of the wonderful things about this place everyone is so awesome! jennsblahblahblog@hotmail.com! Everyone our here is awesome
!
Wow I love this post Jen. I started a blog myself and hope to one day grow it like you have. Yes blogging involves a lot of work, time, and money. I had to do all the design myself and still have no clue yet on to grow it. If anyone is doing it to only make money, then they need to hang it up. I do it b/c it gives me a voice, and creativity. It takes at least a year to build up your network and your brand. So, if you did this all in 9 months then you have busted some serious *** to get it done. Congrats Jen. Beautiful layout btw. If you got any pointers let me know thuyvu33@gmail.com
Thanks for the wonderful comment, I have really busted my ***! LOL, I guess one of the reason I get so worked up when people act like its easy lol…. I needed to vent one of the reasons I love this place, you’re able to do that! Like you said it gives you a voice and chance to be creative! I am sending you an email, I am sure we can help eachother out!
Thank you for this post! It really is encouraging! I’ve wanted to blog since I was in high school, but I was never too serious about it until about 2 years ago. I just purchased my domain name, hosting company and am working on a theme. I think the hardest part to blogging is having a blog that isn’t like everyone else’s, you know? There are a million coupon blogs, deal blogs, freebie blogs, etc and then you think to yourself ‘well where do I fit in?’ and that’s the hardest part. I absolutely love your blog(s). They are funny, educational and I can relate to them. You’re doing a fantastic job!!!
