I am always on the lookout for home remedies and natural treatments to use around my house. In my opinion they often work better than many things you spend top dollar on from the store. Take baking soda for instance, it works for everything. Okay, maybe not everything, but there is tons of home remedies for baking soda.
Home remedies and natural treatments are awesome… in fact you will probably find most things you need already in your home. There are so many ways for us to still care for our families, and take care of our homes without needing to spend all that money on products from the store. Not only that, but it’s often better for us to use products we already know and trust.
I am in no way a pro on home remedies or natural treatments, but I do have a few tricks up my sleeve and am always willing to listen and learn. If you’re interested in a few home remedies to use around your home I have a few listed below.
DIY Frost Free Windows
Mix one cup of salt, and one liter of water. Sponge the liquid onto the inside of your window, and BAM this will help to prevent frost from forming during the winter.
Stop Bleeding from Shaving
Grab you’re over the counter, cheap chap stick and swipe it to stop the bleeding.
DIY Remove Dings From Wood Furniture
Rub a walnut of the areas to blemish. Before you know it they will be gone, and your furniture will look fabulous.
DIY Fix your CD/DVDs
For a fast easy fix on small scratches you can use lotion, for a better fix use toothpaste. First clean your CD or DVD to prevent extra scratches. Once clean simply apply toothpaste, or lotion to cotton ball and apply in curricular motions, allow to sit for a few minutes, and was off toothpaste.
Get Rid of Fleas
Kitchen dish soap can also be used to help get rid of fleas.
Blisters
It’s kind of crazy sounding I know, but Listerine for blisters. It can help dry out your blisters. All you need to do is put a little on a cotton ball and dab on your blister 2 to 3 times a day.
Remove Warts
I have never tried this, but have a close friend that has done it. Duck Tape, it’s kind of like baking soda; works for everything. It’s supposed to work better than freezing, so give it a try. If you want to know more things Duck Tape works or be sure to read:
Diarrhea
Drink one glass of yummy apple juice to help fight off stomach flu. Did you know that apples can help to prevent the flu and diarrhea?
Insect Bites
There are several things you have around the house that will help with insect bites. Frozen aloe vera gel works well. If the bite is sore you might try an onion to help alleviate the soreness, just rub a slice to the bite. Lime Juice helps with stings, and those pesky mosquito bites. Toothpaste helps with mosquito bites as well as other insect bites.
Acne
Yogurt and Oatmeal works great. Simply mix all natural yogurt and oatmeal into a thick paste and apply to face. Allow to try, wash with warm water, and repeat when needed. Toothpaste also works well. Simply dab a little to the pimple using a cotton swab, allow to dry overnight, wash with warm water in the morning.
Back Pain
Peel several potatoes, and boil until they are soft enough to mash. Drain water, mash, and once they are cool enough apply to back. Let the potatoes dry for at least one hour, and this should help relieve backache.
Stinky Breath
Do you have a coffee bean in your house? If so grab one and suck on it to get fresh breath.
Dandruff
I have never used Listerine for dandruff, but have heard it works. Apply like you would shampoo or conditioner, let sit for 5 minutes, and rinse your hair. My sister-n-law swears by this.
Insomnia
I’m sure you have heard of warm milk, but what about Bananas? Try eating at least 2 bananas during the day to help with insomnia. Potassium can help you get that much-needed sleep.
DIY Teeth Whitening
Swish Hydrogen Peroxide in your mouth twice daily for up to 10 days and you should notice a difference. I have always heard never to go past the 10 days because it will cause your gums to get tender.
Kids Pain
Fill a sock with uncooked rice and close the open end by tying closed with a sting. Place sock in microwave for about 45 seconds or until warm and place it wherever your little one is experiencing pain. Once sock is cool you can place back in microwave for another round.
Everything else
I’m pretty sure baking soda will work for it, lol.
Do you know of some great home remedies that help make life easier, or less stressful? If so leave me a comment I would love to learn about them.

Thank you for the tips, I will have to share them with my wife.
My daughter has suffered from extreme acne for a long time without finding anything that helps. I’ll definitely pass along the tips you presented. Anything is worth a try! And I’m out the door to buy bananas for my insomnia.

Home remedies are always helpful and sometimes better than store bought remedies:)
I like this post. Home remedies are great. I love the fact that you can help your kids without putting all those extra chemicals into them.
Baking soda can be used just about everywhere in the house. I’ve found whenever we get a burn if we pour soy sauce on it the pain is instantly gone. It keeps the area from blistering too.
Wow, those are some great tips! I book marked so I can reference. I really like the chapstick on my shave nicks. I never would have thought. As much as I cut myself, lol, Im going to try it.
This is awesome Thanks!!! My friend just sent me one on 20 uses of Vics rub. One of the ones that struck me funny but makes sense was if your animal is peeing in a certain spot rub vicks in that area and then they will not go there because they do not like the smell. I have fibromyalgia. I have heard of a lot of things for my back but I have never heard of boiling potatoes mashing them up cooling them and then placing them on my back!!! What makes me wonder is how did someone come up with that one??? I am all for it if it truly works but where did someone think oh I should boil potatoes mash them and then put them on my back and it will make it better??? hehe That is too funny for me.
