How To Make a Duck Tape Folder! Tons Of Things To Do With Duck Tape!

by Jenn

Have you ever wondered how to make a duck tape folder?  I know me neither until today!

My daughter wanted a red and black folder made out of duck tape for school this year.  Yes, a duck tape folder lol.  I thought she was a little off her rocker myself, but after making one I have to say it’s pretty awesome.  Did you know that people make things such as; Duck Tape Wallets, Clothing, Backpacks, Book covers, and all kinds of other things?  I did, but I had no ideas the extent people were going to, my friend was telling me that her son made his tuxedo for prom out of Duck Tape!  OMG, sounds a little crazy doesn’t it.  She said it turned out really awesome, and it took him several weeks to do, and was less expensive than purchasing or renting a tux lol.

Duck TapeSince we made our very first Duck Tape folder I thought I would share these super easy directions with you.  Hey, you have to give a kid credit for wanting to keep her homework safe right.  You know as well as I do that Duck Tape will do the job.  Speaking of how strong Duck Tape is.  Did you know that Nascar calls it the 200 mph tape?  It can hold up, nice and strong to speeds up to 200mph.

Yes I read this article explaining how NASCAR teams have used Duck Tape to adjust body panels on cars, to hold parts together until they’re able to fix them, quick fixes to hoses, or loose wires, and several other things.  Duck Tape is some hard core stuff, I know it can hold a mirror on a truck, a window up that keep falling, keep a cracked windshield from falling in, repair a broke fan belt, finger splint for broke finger, repair upholstery (good thing they have fashionable Duck Tape lol), reflectors, patch screens on windows, patch seat covers on bikes, motorcycles, ATV’s, make a Duck Tape ball, broken tail lights on your car or truck, and I know there is probably 1000 other things it can do.

My daughter told me some of her friends have used Duck Tape to make earrings, waxing lets, belt, necklace, book shelf, hair ties, lint remover, holding shoe laces in place, and tons more I cannot remember them all.

How To Make a Duck Tape FolderHow To Make a Duck Tape Folder

If you have ever wondered how to make a Duck Tape folder than you are in luck.  All you need is a roll of Duck Tape, or you can choose your favorite colors like I did.  We used red and black Duck Tape for our folder, and when it was all said and done had enough to make a folder for every one of our daughters classes.

What you will need to make a Duck Tape Folder

  • Scissors
  • Duck Tape (your favorite color(s)
  • Ruler

Duck Tape Folder

Make a sheet 11 ½” x 18 ½” sheet by stacking 18 ½” strips of Duck Tape long ways. I made mine 20”, so I could trim it to size.

2

Carefully peel up the sheet you just made and flip it over so the sticky side is up and repeat step one. Remember sticky side to sticky side.

3

Now you have to make the pouch, I made mine about 5” tall by 19” wide remember to leave enough to trim, it’s better to be too long than too short. Carefully peel the pouch and flip and repeat the process, sticky side to sticky side.

5

Now you need the folder part. Determine which side you want the pouch on. Cut 2- 5” strips of Duck Tape® and attach the pouch to the folder at each side. Then cut 1 strip of tape 19” long and attach the pouch to the bottom of the folder. All there is left to do is to trim the edges fold in half and crease your folder down the middle.

Enjoy your new Duct Tape folder…

If you wish to make your Duck Tape Folder a little less flimsy you can cut a wire hanger 11 ½” long, placed it in the center and covered it with another piece of tape to keep my folder from bending

Have you ever made anything out of Duck Tape?  If so what have you made, and if not what are some unique things you use Duck Tape for in your home.

How cool! I’ve heard of people making prom dresses and wallets out of duct tape, but I never thought of folders. Love the colors she chose!

I love duct tape! I use it for everything. We made my daughter’s desk out of her old crib and used the tape to decorate the edges of the chalkboard finish. My desk is made from two table tops put together and I use the tape to keep them together, even though they are supported by a shelving unit.
We like to make our own greeting cards and we use the tape to decorate it. I use it along with cardstock to scrapbook holiday/birthday pics in frames. We have a ridiculous amount of deco tape, craft tape and the mini tapefitti tapes. We love our tape!

This really isn’t anything new. The only thing new about it is the fact that duck tape has so many different colors and prints now that duck is a cool thing to use!!! I used to put the ugly gray duck tape on my folders when duck tape was the ugly gray color. LOL
