Domestic violence, it’s a subject that we often hear too much about, yet cannot do anything about because those who are caught up in the middle of it all don’t speak up! There is no doubt it’s hard to talk about domestic violence, but the fact of the matter is we need to speak up, and now is the time to take a stand and start the conversation because October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month! I don’t know if you have heard about the passing the Purple Purse during the month of October to help spark a conversation for domestic violence. If you have that is amazing, and I hope you will take a moment and pass this purple purse. If you are new and have not heard of it, it’s an amazing campaign that I am sure you will want to be part of.
It’s sad, but if we have not experienced some type of domestic violence I think it’s safe to say that many of us know someone who has been a victim. I have had several friends who were involved in violent relationships, not all females either. While women are primarily the victims, I think it’s also worth mentioning that there are men and children who are victims of violent acts in the home. It always makes things worse when children are involved and my heart goes out to those babies who grow up thinking it’s just the way things are supposed to be, because it’s not.
Do You Have A Minute? Pass The Purple Purse, Spark a Conversation!
This month The Allstate Foundation needs our help, EVERYONE to take just a few minutes out of their day and take part in the Purple Purse campaign. The Purple Purse is The Allstate Foundations symbol for domestic violence. It represents a woman’s way to get away from the horrible cycle of abuse by gaining financial responsibility. The Allstate Foundation has pledged to donate up to $350,000 to the YWCA for programs that are designed to assist survivors of domestic violence, and women who are in need. I personally think it’s a great campaign and support it 100%, and I hope you will too.
